BEST BASS BAITS

6 months on water testing!
BassDigest loves the new
and innovative approaches
to catching fish that come
out every year. Berkley is
a perennial corporate giant
that gives anglers something new to talk about and try.

2003 was no exception as Berkley announced it’s live bait
wonderbaits GULP! GULP was proclaimed the best bait
ever designed, even outfishing REAL! Bait.

As a avid bass angler and field tester of products great
and small, this will turn our heads....better than live
bait??? Tournament anglers can’t use live bait....so
why not something better.

The approach was simple, fish live bait right next to GULP
and compare statistics. After 6 months and 320 bass in
a literal side by side test on water in a Texas rigged approach
in schooled bass, GULP nightcrawler baits produced
82 of those bass, compared to 238 on live bait. The baits
we a mere 10 feet from each other and no edge was given
to either. When fished aggressively, as we did with the
Turtle back lures VS competition in same colors, the
results were even. 50% on Gulp 50% on other leading
brand.

Analysis - Although the claims of 412 times faster scent
release to entice bass, bass still preferred live bait. When
fished versus a self scented worm against the turtleback,
the scented worm seemed to visibly give off more scent.

Fish were caught with GULP and because it is 100%
bio-degradeable, they are onto something there, but
as for the overwhelming claims of BASSGOD status,
at the price, I’d be remiss to give the thumbs up.

Drawback: PRICE!!!!
